This project goal is to create concepts which would utilize shipping freight containers in a variety of configurations to provide shelter in a desert environment. A series of prototypes are developed to take advantage of the views, provide passive cross ventilation and comfort to the users.
Containers are aligned adjacent to each other to meet the width requirements for living spaces. A vertical short container has a stair that provides access to the roof deck. Hard wood siding is provided in areas where containers doors are removed. Metal clad overhangs provides shading at exterior doors and windows.
Shipping containers are affordable and recycled. Finished containers are pre-fabricated and delivered to a site to be secured to the foundations.
